Challenge

Reduce distractions in an office environment with residential style construction

Tradition Senior Living provides independent and assisted living at two locations in the Dallas area—Tradition-Prestonwood and Tradition-Lovers Lane. Tradition Senior Living prides itself on the beauty of their facilities and the resort-style living offered to its residents.

The Tradition-Lovers Lane residence is the newer of the two locations and takes its cues from the first on Prestonwood with regard to design aesthetics and overall elegance of the community. With 202 independent living and 109 assisted living units, the administration and office staff is very busy organizing the all aspects of resident care. There are fifteen employees residing in an open office environment conducting the general office and administrative duties. Although some responsibilities are independent, workers often need to collaborate. The open workspace, coupled with the way the facility was constructed (using many materials more appropriate for a residential space than an office space) created noise distractions where conversations seemed to echo throughout the space. This led to speech privacy concerns among the employees.

Rick Campos, Controller at Tradition Senior Living, had used sound masking at a previous company, and worked with Phoenix Office Technology Services to research and demo solutions that would offer them a cost-effective way to lessen noise distractions and create a more pleasant work environment for his busy office.

“The QtPro sound masking system has been instrumental at reducing the noise distractions in our office and our employees feel more confident that their conversations are not being overheard.” – Rick Campos, Controller, Tradition Senior Living, LP

Solution

Cambridge QtPro® Sound Masking from Biamp

The QtPro sound masking system by Cambridge Sound Management was evaluated and selected as the ideal sound masking solution to fit the needs of Tradition Senior Living. Because the ceiling was drywall with little plenum space, a traditional sound masking speaker would not have fit above the plenum, but the Cambridge Sound Management’s small, low-impact Qt Emitters were easily inserted into the ceiling material. The emitters were connected by cables to an intuitive Qt 300 control module mounted in the equipment room.

Result

A pleasant, more productive work environment

With the QtPro sound masking system, employees are able to concentrate without speech and other noise distractions in the office area, making the space much more productive and pleasant. “The QtPro sound masking system has been instrumental at reducing the noise distractions in our office and our employees feel more confident that their conversations are not being overheard,” said Campos.

About Tradition Senior Living

Today, Tradition Senior Living provides a continuum of care—independent living, assisted living, and memory care—in two different locations in Dallas. The new community, on East Lovers Lane, takes its cues from the first on Prestonwood, which is warmed by antiques and filled with natural light in gorgeous common areas. Residents dine by the firelight in an elegant, spacious dining room. Gentlemen read their papers in plush sofas and chairs surrounded by Old World prints and paintings. Ladies play cards in a room painted an ethereal color. When they retire, it’s to extraordinary private living areas detailed with crown molding and individual balconies.
